Indoor Air Quality

According to the EPA, in some homes across America, the quality of indoor air can be worse than outdoor air. This in part is because many homes are being built and remodeled tighter, allowing for less fresh air entry.

Hurricanes, high humidity, faulty HVAC systems, poor building maintenance, lack of knowledge with regards to indoor air quality (IAQ), and the presence of high levels of outdoor mold spores are issues that affect commercial and residential homes alike.

IAQ issues impact the lives of people across the globe. Problems with poor IAQ can result in health concerns, liability issues, lost productivity, and decreased property values.

IAQ problems in commercial and residential buildings are often caused by complex, interrelated issues. Diagnosing and fixing the sources of poor IAQ may require the professional expertise of one or more consultants or contractors. It is important that individuals be highly qualified to investigate and identify the problem according to recognized industry standards and guidelines. The qualified IAQ scientists at Crossroads Environmental Consultants, Inc. possess a knowledge of building science, epidemiology, microbiology, and environmental science. The complete IAQ inspection incorporates all of these disciplines and more.

There are many firms available today to help find solutions to IAQ problems. However, in Florida as with most parts of the country, the IAQ industry is not regulated. It is important to choose a qualified professional. At Crossroads Environmental Consultants, Inc., our IAQ scientists possess the highest levels of training and certification. Our senior IAQ scientist is a Council Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC). This certification is accredited by the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards and requires a Bachelors of Science degree specializing in microbiology and/or the environmental sciences. Additionally, the CIEC requires numerous years of field experience, closed book examination, council approval, and continuing education.
